Dmitrii Arnaoutov began his career at the age of eight in a family of performers in the Great Moscow Circus in Russia. He was part of the Flying Arnaoutov Act, which his father created in 1936 and is now known as Russian Cradle. In 1975, he obtained a degree in direction of circus and variety shows from the renowned University of Lunacharsky. His career extends for almost six decades and consists of performing and directing with the Great Moscow Circus, Cirque du Soleil, and many other entertainment corporations around the world. He also taught at the National Circus School (ENC) in Montreal for some time. Dmitrii earned the award for best performer in Russia in 1979 with the Medal of Honor, the Crystal Glove in Monte Carlo in 1987, and the Journalist’s Best Performance acclaim in Rome that same year. He was also the first person to introduce the solo straps discipline to North America in 1990 while performing in Cirque du Soleil's Nouvelle Expérience, where he became known as "The Flying Man". In 2003, Dmitrii created his own company: Cirque Nouvel Air, which offered circus performances for corporate events and galas around the world. Finally, he became the head coach of the renowned show Corteo for Cirque du Soleil where he toured for five years in North America, Japan, Russia, Europe, and South America. Recently, Dmitrii was part of the creative team for the new Cirque du Soleil show: Toruk. Afterwards, he participated in Cirque du Soleil’s transfer of the OVO show into arena format. Dmitrii's word-class coaching skills have also led to international prizes such as the Russain Cradle duo Throwings at the Cirque de Demain Festival in Paris, France, winning gold in 2016. Lastly, Dmitrii contributes his time as an experti coach at the Cirque du Soleil headquarters in Montreal on their new creations.
From a young age, Dmitrii has always been involved in the construction and fabrication of different equipment, apparatuses, and accessories in the circus. His family’s knowledge and his lifelong experience have led him to create and conceptualize many different innovations in the circus arts world. Some of Dmitrii's creations were showcased in Cirque Nouvel Air, like the Da Vinci Ring, the aerial wooden sphere, and the aerial Charlie Chaplin quick-change act. One of his latest works was a new design for the aerial hand loop, which is now widely used in Cirque du Soleil's new Avatar show Toruk, and Paramour in New York City. Dmitrii continues to work on many different ideas and projects to help acrobats and aerialists perform and practice in a more safe, durable, and user-friendly manor. His goal is always to make sure that the artist feels comfortable and confident in his or her apparatus in order to achieve the highest level of performance. Dmitrii strives to keep improving and innovating in the circus arts for years to come with his unique coaching expertise and unparalleled creative mind.
